Chalk Bluff

The Chalk Bluff is low laying volcanic ridge about 5 miles NW of Bishop. The red-orange volcanic mesa is about 4 miles wide and 300 feet tall, so if you catch it right it can produce some decent ridge soaring in a SSE wind. The terrain is extremely rocky and sharp, so finding somewhere to launch is tricky. This site is very rarely flown, as ridge soaring in the Owen’s is pretty hit or miss. Exercise caution here, the terrain is unforgiving!
